Panel discussion at the NSW State Library: "Is Haute Couture Relevant in Australia"

I was very privileged to join an impressive group to discuss the relevance of haute couture in a country better known for its relaxed fashion styles.
Of course, we all agreed haute couture is indeed relevant and wonderful there are still people who not only appreciate it, but can also afford it. We agreed the art of haute couture continued the need for skilled seamstresses, dressmakers, pattern cutters, beaders and embroiderers, couture fabric suppliers along with offering an income to shops and bespoke designers who worked in this metier.

Our respected group included Kellie Hush, Fashion Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, Prof. Peter McNeil, Author and Fashion Historian, Patti Huntington, Fashion Blogger, Margot Riley, Librarian and Fashion Historian (and host of the evening) and me, Author and Curator of The Darnell Collection.
